York Region Arts Camp

Celebrating over 30 years on the shores of a private lake in the Haliburton Highlands, Camp White Pine is host to a unique yearly camp for York Region District School Board students. Arts Camp is an intensive week-long immersion in visual, studio and performance art programs and experiences. YRDSB teachers, community artists and student cabin leaders plan and facilitate differentiated arts programs and support a unique, inclusive environment for campers. There are 250 students ranging from Grades 7-12 from across York Region who attend morning and afternoon arts-based programs augmented by other daily workshops and engaging whole-camp activities. This memorable and dynamic week-long camp culminates in a studio tour and performance night.

Saturday, May 25th to Saturday, June 1st, 2024.

 

Where i​s​ it held?

Camp White Pine in Haliburton, Ontario. Optional transportation service is offered (see camper application for fee information).

 

Who can apply as a Camper?

Students in Grades 7-12 who are registered at a York Region District School Board school can apply to be a camper. Students in Grades 10-12 may also apply for a leadership position: Counsellor (Grades 11 and 12) and Counsellor-In-Training (preference is given to Grades 10 and 11)

Where is the application?

The application process is completed online through a Google Form once applications open, on Thursday February 29th, 2024. Please apply online via the 2024 Arts Camp-Camper Application.

How do I apply for a Counsellor-In-Training (CIT) position?


To create an amazing Arts Camp experience, we need amazing people!

Counselor positions are open to Grade 11 and 12 students. If you are a former YRDSB Arts Camp camper or a YRDSB student in grade 11-12 and want the opportunity to lead the next generation of campers, apply as a Counsellor. If hired, you will build on your incredible leadership skills and have fun at your happy place from May 25th to June 1st (SAVE THE DATE). The application will open Thursday February 29 and close on March 22, 2024.

Counselor-In-Training (CIT) positions are open to Grade 10-12 students only (preference given to Grade 10 & 11 students first).  CITs work with a Counsellor to provide leadership to a cabin of campers for the duration of camp. All selected CITs also participate in our Leadership Training morning program at camp and select an Arts program of their choice for the afternoon.

Please note: Applications must be completed in their entirety in one session as there is no option to save and return to your application.  Therefore, it is recommended that you prepare your written answers in advance.

Additional Mandatory Dates: 

  1. Virtual C/CIT Information Night - Monday, March 18, 2024 (6-7 p.m.) 

    • Attendance is optional but it will offer insight on the programs and be a chance to ask questions of the leadership team.

  2. Mandatory Virtual C/CIT Interviews - (one of) Tuesday, March 26 & Wednesday, March 27.  Interviews will last about 10 to 15 minutes and take place between 3-8 p.m. 

    • Sign up information will be sent to all applicants in the near future.  If you submit and application and do not receive information by March 25, please email arts.camp@yrdsb.ca.

  3. Mandatory C/CIT Training - Thursday., April 18th, 2024 (4:30-8:30 p.m.) at Adrienne Clarkson P.S. 

  4. Mandatory Family Information Night -Tuesday, May 14th, 2024 (6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m.) at Richmond Green SS

    • C's and CITs must arrive by 6:00pm.

PROGRAM PROPOSALS from interested YRDSB teaching staff and community artists.

PROGRAM PROPOSAL to teach at Arts Camp is now open for both YRDSB teaching staff and community artists and will close on March 8, 2024. YRDSB teaching staff interested in a teaching position at YRDSB Arts Camp 2024 are invited to submit a Program Proposal using the online 2024 Application Form.
