It isn’t easy to find full-time employment, so make use of the programs and agencies in York Region that support youth looking for full-time employment.
Programs
The Provincial Government funds the Job Connect Program, which is a Counsellor-assisted career and employment preparation program intended to help youth make a successful transition to employment or further education and training. Services include: summer jobs, job search assistance, skills assessment, career planning and exploration, job maintenance, pre-employment preparation and GED assessment. A counsellor will help you to become job ready and then help you to find a job.
The Federal Government funds the Job Skills Program, which provides a number of self-directed resources that you can use to assist you in your job search. Services are provided at no cost to any unemployed individual in York Region.
Types of Employment Centres
Different Employment Centres offer different levels of support.- Counsellor-assisted Centres offer one-on-one help finding a job.
- Self-directed Centres offer workshops in place of one-on-one counselling and thus are more suitable for the experienced job hunter.
- Specialized Centres offer additional services for youth-at-risk, people with disabilities, and people who need work experience
If the Employment Centre in your local area (Aurora - Newmarket, Keswick - Sutton, Markham - Stouffville, Thornhill - Richmond Hill, Vaughan) does not offer the support that you feel you need, you may contact a Centre outside your area.
If you find any errors or significant omissions from this list of Employment Centres, please contact Guidance Services so that we can update our information.

Youth-at-Risk Employment Centres |
Most employment centres are only designed to help a person find a job. Youth-at-risk centres provide additional support. They will work with you to identify any significant barriers to employment (e.g. limited education, substance abuse problems). After determining your needs, they will work with you to create an action plan that will ensure your success in both finding and keeping a job. These Counsellor-assisted centres have access to all of the specialized services, initiatives and programs that are available in the region. |
