At Donald Cousens Public School, environmental stewardship is more than a program, it’s a school-wide culture.
Led by Teacher Sheila Ducheck, students from Grades 1 to 8 engage in hands-on eco initiatives, from litter cleanups and herb gardens to biodiversity projects and ephemeral art. With a structure that includes Eco Sprouts, Eco Dragons and the Eco Crew, students take on leadership roles that inspire action and build environmental awareness throughout the school.
Their efforts were recently recognized with a second-place national ranking by EcoSchools Canada, and this year, they were honoured with a YRDSB Applause Award for their ongoing commitment to sustainability and community impact.
