Celebrate the Spectrum

In recognition of Autism Acceptance Month, York Region District School Board will be “Celebrating the Spectrum” and hosting a flag raising ceremony on March 31, 2023. YRDSB works closely with community partners to build stronger, more inclusive communities for people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).


YRDSB is excited to celebrate with students and families, staff and community partners ahead of World Autism Day on April 2, 2023.

Autism exists on a spectrum, which means that while all people on the spectrum will experience some of the differences mentioned above, the degree to which each autistic person experiences them and the amount of support they need, will vary.

Approximately 1 - 2% of the Canadian population is on the autism spectrum which means there areapproximately 135,000 autistic people in Ontario.


York Region District School Board is the third largest school district in Ontario with over 126,000 students in 180 elementary schools and 33 secondary schools. York Region students consistently perform above average in provincial testing and the Board is one of the top achievers in Ontario.
