Last week, Dr JM Denison Secondary School in Newmarket hosted an open house for elementary students and their families, offering a glimpse into life at the school and its programs.
“A night like this is very important for the families here to come see Denison,get to know the school, get to know what we offer,” said Elena, Grade 11 student.
The annual event at Dr JM Denison SS featured a presentation on what to expect in high school and interactive stations around the school showcasing courses, clubs, sports and programs. About 200 student volunteers helped guide visitors and share their experiences.
“Everyone in the school is very welcoming,” said Antonella, a member of the school council.
“Before I actually came here on the Grade 8 night, I learned so much on the website, on our Instagram, but coming to the Grade 8 night really helped me make this decision,” said Jocelyn, now a Grade 11 student at Dr. J. M. Denison S.S.
York Region District School Board secondary schools host open houses each year to welcome prospective students and families.
