By-Election for Trustee to be Held in Richmond Hill

Aurora, ON – At the July 6 Special Board Meeting, trustees of the York Region District School Board met to decide on how to fill the trustee vacancy in Richmond Hill, Wards 1, 2 and 4 following the resignation of Corrie McBain. The Board will fill the vacant trustee position through a by-election.

Corrie McBain had served the Board since 2014 before announcing her resignation in May.

“On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I thank Corrie for her contributions to public education in York Region,” said Chair of the Board Juanita Nathan. “Trustees carefully considered the options and determined that holding a by-election would provide the residents of Richmond Hill with a fair process to democratically select their representative.”

Trustees directed staff members to communicate with the Clerk’s Department at the City of Richmond Hill to initiate a by-election. More information, including timelines and polling locations, will be made available through the City of Richmond Hill. The Board website will be updated as information becomes available.

York Region District School Board is the third largest school district in Ontario with over 127,000 students in 180 elementary schools and 33 secondary schools.
