Course Description: 

This course emphasizes consolidation of literacy, critical thinking, and communication skills. Students will e informational texts and literary works from various time periods, countries, and cultures; write research reports, summaries, and short analytical essays; complete an independent study project; and e the interactions among media forms, audiences, and media industry practices. An important focus will be on establishing appropriate style and using business and technical language effectively.

Required Software/Equipment:

At a minimum, students should have access to

  • Computer
  • Internet connection (high speed is preferable since some demonstrations and lessons may take a long time to download on a dial-up connection)
  • media player (to view streaming video) generally a free download, if not already included with Internet Explorer
  • word processing software
  • graphics software, where the product can be saved in a standard format like .jpg or .gif
