Game On! Board Game Club at Pleasantville P.S. Engages Students and Families

For over a decade, students at Pleasantville PS have been developing social, academic, strategic thinking and leadership skills through the school's board game club, and now families have been invited to join the fun.

Students in the club have the opportunity to play a variety of different games.  Older students are invited to take a leadership role in teaching games to the younger students. Recently, families were invited to join as well when the school held a board game evening. Students had the opportunity to teach their families how to play and to spend a fun evening together.

"Everyone is welcome," said Deborah Tuchow, a teacher at Pleasantville PS who was instrumental in starting the club over ten years ago. "It also taps into the social aspects and academic aspects."

"I think my favourite part about being part of this club is I get to experience a lot of new games, and I get to spend time with my friends," said Mila, a Grade 8 student. "My favourite experience from this club is probably teaching other kids, or maybe even parents, like teaching the juniors or teaching the primaries. I event taught at the board game night one time, and I kind of like teaching because it makes me feel helpful and I like that feeling."
