A local Keswick Public School student has been recognized by York Regional Police (YRP) during a special assembly held in front of family and the school community.
Josie, a Grade 6 student at Keswick Public School, and Wendel received certificates and commemorative coins from YRP. They were recognized for their quick actions, remaining calm and contacting a trusted adult.
“They gave us rewards for doing the right thing and having quick actions and not freezing up,” said Josie.
In addition to honoring Josie and Wendel, YRP Youth Engagement Officers led an interactive presentation for students on safety, the responsibilities of being an active upstander and best practices for contacting emergency services.
Following the assembly, Wendel and Josie were treated to a ride aboard a York Regional Police Marine Unit vessel as a thank you for their community spirit.
