York Region District School Board is committed to affirming all identities and addressing hate and discrimination in all forms.
Recently, we received questions about an event at one of our schools to recognize and celebrate Hanukkah. This event was part of a broader effort and series of events to honour the many diverse identities that make up the school community.
Unfortunately, some online comments about this event were antisemitic. While we are not aware of any such incidents at the school, we want to reaffirm our commitment to addressing hate wherever it occurs. Our Board has a clear protocol for addressing incidents of hate and discrimination, which we will continue to follow.
Creating safe, welcoming and inclusive communities is a shared responsibility for us all. Through our role in public education, we remain dedicated to fostering learning environments where all identities are respected and affirmed.
