MasterChef Canada Talent Educates Students at Unionville H.S.

​Markham, ON – MasterChef Canada judge and host Alvin Leung, and former contestants Eric Chong and Christopher Sui visited Unionville H.S. on May 13 to educate students about entrepreneurship, and their journey to becoming restaurateurs and small business owners.


“The chance to hear from MasterChef Canada representatives provided students with a unique and authentic opportunity to meet and ask questions to established, industry-recognized chefs,” said Principal Suelyn Cheong. “In addition, our culinary students had an opportunity to showcase their skills in food production and customer service.” The Unionville H.S. culinary students prepared sushi for the audience members. Students also set up the event, and managed the filming and live-stream production.


Leung, as a MasterChef Canada judge is known as the Demon Chef and the Chef Patron of the internationally celebrated restaurant Bo Innovation. The restaurant has received a top rating of three Michelin Stars. Chong, former winner of MasterChef is co-owner of the R&D Restaurant in Toronto. Sui, MasterChef Baker, and Founder of Daango Sweets Inc. is a former student of Unionville H.S. and is now the owner of three bakeries.

Leung, Chong and Sui all began their careers studying the science and math streams as both Leung and Chong are engineers and Sui is a pharmacist. But the three are passionate about culinary and decided to switch from lucrative career paths in engineering and healthcare to entrepreneurship in the restaurant and food service industry. Their message to students is to follow your passions and be great at what you do.
