Students from Keswick H.S. had the opportunity to learn about the Holocaust through a visual display provided by the Canadian Society for Yad Vashem.
“For the students, I hope they get more of an understanding that history isn’t just a set of events that happened, that is forgotten,” said Tracey McKinley, Head Librarian, Keswick H.S. “It’s events that impacted families, friends, generations of people. And we’re still talking about today because of the messages that has in terms of the importance of active citizenship, the importance of responding to global crisis, the importance of being compassionate and empathetic towards refugees in other countries.”
Hear from students as they reflect on what they learned and the importance of having this resource available to them.
Tracey McKinley was one of several educators from York Region District School Board who attended Yad Vashem this past summer to learn more about Holocaust education.
