Secondary PD Day


Morning (150 minutes)

Time: 55 min.

Topic:  Student Mental Health and Well Being (Pre-recorded video - Facilitated by Administrators)

Details:  “Miss, Dismiss, Avoid: Psychological Barriers to Disrupting Racism, Racial Trauma and How to Counteract It.”This learning will be shared with schools and workplaces through a pre-recorded video.  The “Miss Dismiss Avoid Framework”, is a practical framework that offers tools that answer the questions, “What do I do when racial trauma is occuring ?” and “How can I help?” In Part I of the 3-part Learning Series, staff will engage in 55-minutes of interactive learning on the psychological barriers that cause us to Miss, Dismiss and Avoid addressing racial trauma. Intentional pause for discussion and personal reflection is included. Note: This learning may be of a personal nature for some; supportive resources will be readily available.

 

Time: 95 min.

Topic:  SIP/Department Meetings

Details: School teams will engage School Improvement planning led by school administrators focusing on: 

  • high-impact instructional practices to support student improvement in alignment with the curriculum, 

  • developing resources and learning plans to consolidate foundational knowledge and skills in de-streamed grade 9 courses and across the curriculum 

  • supporting Multi Language Learners in our classrooms

  • developing equitable assessment practices 

 

Afternoon (150 minutes)

Time: 60 minutes

Topic:  Making Learning Accessible for MLLs Using the STEP Continua (Required Learning)

Details: This module is the third in a series of required learning intended for secondary educators, administrators and support staff. To build on the content from modules 1 and 2, educators will explore approaches guided by the STEP continua that create entry points to learning for Step 1/Step 2 learners across all subject areas.

 

Time: 60 minutes

Topic: Equitable Assessment Practices Professional Learning Series #2

Details: School teams will engage in professional learning facilitated by school administrators focusing on:

  • implementing the fundamental principles of equitable assessment and evaluation;

  • addressing self-identified barriers to equitable assessment and evaluation; and

  • developing next steps within schools and/or departments.

 

Time: 30 minutes

Topic: SIP/Department Meetings
