YRDSB Appoints New Director of Education, Louise Sirisko

Aurora, ON – The Board of Trustees has appointed Louise Sirisko as the next Director of Education for York Region District School Board. Ms. Sirisko will begin in the role in the new year.

“We are pleased to welcome Louise Sirisko to York Region District School Board,” said Loralea Carruthers, Board Chair. “Louise brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the role, including direct experience with another large GTA board and with the province. We are confident that our Board will benefit from her commitment to equity, inclusion and human rights. Louise has a proven track record of building positive relationships with students, families, staff and community members to advance student achievement and well-being.”

“I am honoured to be joining York Region District School Board and would like to thank the Board of Trustees for this opportunity,” said Louise Sirisko, incoming Director of Education for YRDSB. “I plan to continue the focus on building relationships within our communities and earn trust and support for our collective vision. Working together, we will strengthen public confidence in the board through a student-centred commitment to engagement, achievement, well-being and equity.”

Louise Sirisko spent 27 years in education, most recently as Director of the Special Education/Success for All Branch at the Ontario Ministry of Education. Prior to joining the Ministry of Education, Ms. Sirisko was a Superintendent of Special Education with the Peel District School Board (PDSB). Ms. Sirisko began her education career with PDSB in 1990 as an elementary school teacher and has held other positions, including Vice-Principal, Principal and Superintendent of Education.

Interim Director of Education Kathryn Wallace’s last day will be November 30, 2017. In the interim, an Acting Director of Education will be appointed.

In her time here, she has focused on strengthening relationships with families and communities, and reenergizing our commitment to creating safe, welcoming and inclusive learning environments.”

York Region District School Board is the third largest school district in Ontario with over 123,000 students in 177 elementary schools and 33 secondary schools.
