YRDSB Students Receive Over 50 Awards at Regional Science Fair

Students from York Region District School Board took home over 50 awards and honourable mentions at the York Region Science and Technology Fair held last Saturday.

The science fair gives students an opportunity to showcase their scientific knowledge and their problem solving and critical thinking skills. More than 100 students from York Region District School Board participated in the regional science fair held at York University, and took home the following awards:

  • three students received gold awards
  • nine students received special awards
  • 20 students received silver medals
  • 17 students received bronze medals
  • seven students received honourable mentions

The three students who won gold awards will go on to represent York Region at the Canada-Wide Science Fair in Fredericton in May, and will receive mentoring from Innovation York:

  • Harry Parmar for Synthetic Violacein: Exploring the Power of Designer Pharmaceuticals in Real World
  • Anna Tymofyeyeva for An Integrated Glucose Meter Using Sweat Diagnostic Technology For Diabetics
  • Katelyn Wang for Efficacy of Quaternary Ammonium Antimicrobial Application on Textile Substrates

“We are so proud of all of our students who participated in the Science and Technology Fair, and the staff who support them. Our students continue to show an impressive level of creativity, critical thinking and scientific knowledge and connections,” said Heather Sears, Superintendent of Education, Curriculum and Instructional Services.
