Aurora, ON – At the April 4 Board Meeting, Trustees of the York Region District School Board announced their decision to fill the vacant Georgina Trustee position through a by-election.
The position is vacant following the resignation of Nancy Elgie, effective February 21, 2017.
“Having a by-election means the residents of Georgina have a fair and democratic process to select their representative,” said Chair of the Board Loralea Carruthers. “We wanted to ensure a fair and transparent process and that’s why we held a community consultation to ensure community concerns were heard.”
Trustees directed staff members to communicate with the Clerk’s Department at the Town of Georgina to initiate a by-election. More information, including timelines and polling locations, will be made available through the Town of Georgina. The Board website will be updated as information becomes available.
The elected candidate will hold the position until the next municipal election, scheduled for October 2018.
