Aurora, ON – Students from Newmarket High School raised $77,000 this year through Relay for Life to support the Canadian Cancer Society.
Months of fundraising culminated in a nine hour relay with hundreds of students participating. Several cancer survivors were also in attendance and began the event by walking the opening Victory Lap.
“We are very proud of all participating students, who have helped to fundraise and reach this remarkable goal,” said Loralea Carruthers, Chair of the Board. “We are continually impressed by the philanthropic achievements of our students.”
“Through participation in fundraising events like Relay for Life, our students are creating opportunities to become engaged and caring citizens of the world. We are so pleased to see them contributing to our communities.” said Kathryn Wallace, Interim Director of Education.
Since adopting the event in 2006, student-led initiatives at Newmarket High School have collectively raised over $663,000 to support cancer research and Canadians living with cancer and their families.
