Aurora, ON – Belal Taha, Principal of Trillium Woods P.S., has been recognized as one of Canada’s Outstanding Principals by The Learning Partnership.

Taha is one of 40 principals across Canada being honoured for their outstanding contributions in publicly funded education. The program recognizes principals who demonstrate innovation, leadership and employing creativity in finding solutions and opportunities within their school communities.

Taha has been with the York Region District School Board since 2009. He also served as principal of Mackenzie Glen P.S.

“This is a well deserved honour for someone who shows exemplary leadership and a clear commitment to creating welcoming, inclusive learning environments,” said Director of Education J. Philip Parappally. “This has been particularly evident in his efforts to build relationships with refugee families as he welcomes them into the school community.”

“Belal Taha continues to exemplify the values held by our Board,” said Chair of the Board Loralea Carruthers. “I am pleased to offer my congratulations and thanks to him and to the many principals in our Board who inspire learning and make a difference for our students every day.”

Taha will receive the award at the Canada’s Outstanding Principals awards gala on February 28. The recipients also have the opportunity to attend a five-day executive leadership training program on leadership and management practices at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management.

York Region District School Board is the third largest school district in Ontario with over 123,000 students in 176 elementary schools and 32 secondary schools. York Region students consistently perform above average in provincial testing and the Board is one of the top achievers in Ontario.
