Students at Thornlea S.S. had the opportunity to learn more about animation, media arts, digital design and business during a field trip to Lighthouse Immersive in Toronto.
“We spent the day at Lighthouse Immersive exploring some of the many options available to students in media arts and giving them the opportunity to hear from people working in the industry,” said Karen O’Meara, Community Connected Experiential Learning Consultant, York Region District School Board.
The students experienced the Immersive Disney animation and Immersive Shevchenko exhibits and spoke with Associate Producer and York Region District School Board graduate Valeriy Kostyuk about his work and career pathway.
“We educate and entertain people at the same time,” said Kostyuk. “Through immersive exhibitions, you’re able to be in the centre of events, you’re able to be inside a painting, you’re able to be inside an emotional state of an artist.”
“I walked in and was instantly amazed by everything I saw,” said Rohan, Grade 10 student at Thornlea S.S. I liked the exhibits. I liked learning about how animation grew over time and how they develop their different techniques.”
