Teacher of the Year Recipients

Aurora, ON - York Region District School Board is pleased to announce the recipients of its annual Teacher of the Year Award. This year’s honours go to Margit Muller from Pierre Elliott Trudeau High School in Markham and Tisha Nelson from Aldergrove Public School in Unionville.

“Each year, the York Region District School Board recognizes teachers who demonstrate outstanding achievement and contributions that support student success,” said Chair of the Board, Loralea Carruthers. “The Teacher of the Year recipients are teachers who exemplify our Mission, Vision and Values as well as other practices that enhance success in the classroom and in our schools.”

“Congratulations to Margit and Tisha on receiving this honour,” said Kathryn Wallace, Interim Director of Education for the York Region District School Board. “Margit and Tisha are representative of the many teachers across our Board who work every day to advance student achievement and well-being across York Region.”

Margit Muller is the Head of ESL at Pierre Elliott Trudeau High School where she works tirelessly to empower the newcomer community, build partnerships and challenge students to take risks in their learning.

Tisha Nelson’s goal at Aldergrove Public School is to engage the community, ignite learning and inspire leadership. She excels at motivating learners, fostering inclusion, inspiring innovation and building community.

Tisha and Margit will be recognized at a public Board meeting in the fall.

York Region District School Board is the third largest school district in Ontario with over 123,000 students in 176 elementary schools and 32 secondary schools. York Region students consistently perform above average in provincial testing and the Board is one of the top achievers in Ontario.
