What:

The annual YRDSB Science Olympics is a competition that encourages and promotes skills and attitudes which prepare learners for success in the 21st century through problem based learning and inquiry. The tasks are designed to build skills in literacy, numeracy and critical thinking as well as to enrich learning and engage students. This year’s theme is Superheroes and the following events will take place:

  • Junior Biology: Creating the Ultimate Super Cell
  • Junior Chemistry: Race Against Time
  • Junior Physics: Exploding Planet
  • Senior Biology: Genetically Engineered Superheroes
  • Senior Chemistry: An Antidote to Save the Residents of Seneca Bay
  • Senior Physics: Super Chicken

70 The Pond Road, York University, Toronto, Ontario

When:

Wednesday, March 4, 2015 from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
*Best photo opportunities: 9:45 a.m. - 1:15 p.m. (events) & 2:45 p.m. - 3:15 p.m. (Awards/Closing)

Why:

To provide an opportunity for students to apply what they are learning in the classroom and showcase student talent.

Who:

360 Grade 9-12 students from YRDSB secondary schools.
