York Region District School Board and CUPE 1196 Ratify Agreements

York Region District School Board (YRDSB) ratified a four-year collective agreement with CUPE 1196 staff members. Members of CUPE 1196 include over 1,100 caretaking and maintenance staff members at YRDSB.

“We are pleased to have reached a deal with CUPE 1196 and I would like to thank the bargaining teams from our Board and CUPE 1196 for their leadership to complete this agreement,” said Board Chair Ron Lynn. “Staff members of CUPE Local 1196 are responsible for keeping all York Region School Board schools and facilities clean, safe, and well-maintained for students, staff and families and we appreciate all of their hard work.”

“On behalf of CUPE 1196, I am pleased to share that we have reached a local agreement, which has been endorsed by our members,” said John Malcolm, President of CUPE 1196. “Through our continued partnership and collaboration with YRDSB, our members will continue to ensure students and staff have clean, safe, well-maintained spaces for learning and working.”

The agreements between the YRDSB and CUPE 1196 include items bargained locally. As part of the School Boards Collective Bargaining Act, the local agreement will be combined with the centrally bargained terms of the provincial agreement.
