Aurora, ON – At the December 13 Board meeting, Director of Education J. Philip Parappally announced changes to the Board’s leadership team that bring alignment with the Board’s foundational practices – equity, innovation and leadership – and focus areas – modern learning, mathematics and mental health.

This organizational update will also fill vacancies as a result of recent retirements and implement provincial funding for First Nation, Métis and Inuit education. The highlights of the organizational changes include the appointment of:

  • Scott Yake to the role of Associate Director of Education, Programs. Yake most recently served as Coordinating Superintendent, Human Resources, Plant and Planning Services. His role will focus on the delivery of student programs to support student achievement and well-being.
  • Susan Logue to the role of Superintendent of Education, Well-Being and Engagement. This role, along with the current Coordinating Superintendent of Education, Equity and Community Services, will enhance and further embed the work on equity and inclusivity throughout the Board and align with the Ministry of Education’s Well-Being Strategy and Equity and Inclusive Education Strategy.
  • Drew McNaughton to the role of Superintendent of Education, Indigenous Programs and Policy to further our Board’s work in First Nation, Métis and Inuit education. This role will also help strengthen our partnership with Indigenous students and communities in York Region and honour the spirit of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
  • Clayton LaTouche to the role of Superintendent of Education, Human Resource Services - Operations. This position will provide additional leadership to the Human Resource Services department, and will support school and system operations.

“As with everything we do in this organization, this update is about ensuring that we continue to keep student achievement and well-being at the heart of all that we do,” said Director Parappally. “These changes give us an opportunity to strengthen our work in our Board priorities, particularly in the area of equity and inclusivity and ensure that YRDSB continues to be a leader in public education.”

“I would like to congratulate the appointees,” said Chair of the Board Loralea Carruthers. “Working in partnership with the community and the leadership team, Trustees will continue to focus on student learning and moving forward on our shared goals and priorities.”
