Aurora, ON – To ensure the success and well-being of every one of its students, trustees at the York Region District School Board have undertaken and completed an extensive consultative process to create a new multi-year strategic plan.

Multi-year strategic plans are visioning and policy documents, legislated by the Ontario government, which set the direction of every school board across the province over a four year period.

The Trustees’ new Multi-Year Strategic Plan was developed based on feedback from York Region District School Board families, students, staff members and community partners. Feedback was provided at Town Hall meetings which were held at schools throughout York Region during the 2017-18 school year. Based on the over 2,000 responses collected during the Town Halls and through an online survey, the Board of Trustees developed a new Multi-Year Strategic Plan with four main priorities.

The four priorities are:

  • Foster Well-Being and Mental Health
  • Champion Equity and Inclusivity
  • Build Collaborative Relationships
  • Empower Ethical Leadership

“This new Multi-Year Strategic Plan is a true reflection of the many responses that were received from the York Region community,” said Chair of the Board, Corrie McBain. “While the formal input process has ended, community members are encouraged to provide ongoing feedback over the next four years.”

“York Region District School Board is committed to improving student achievement and well-being,” said Director of Education, Louise Sirisko. “The Multi-Year Strategic Plan is a valuable, living document that will inform the Board’s decision making and planning in the years to come.”

In addition to guiding the work of trustees, the Multi-Year Strategic Plan will influence the Director’s Annual Plan and the Board Improvement Plan for Student Achievement. Both plans will be finalized in the coming months.
