York Region District School Board Recognizes Human Rights Ambassador Award Winners

2024 Human Rights Ambassador Award Winners

May 17, 2024 – YRDSB’s Human Rights Office launched an inaugural Human Rights Ambassador Award for YRDSB secondary students who have made exceptional contributions to advancing the principles of human rights, equality, diversity, inclusion and/or anti-discrimination in their schools during the 2023-24 school year.

On May 1, 2024, at the Celebrating Student Success dinner, these four students were celebrated for their dedication to equity, inclusion, and respect for all.

“Everyone has a role in ensuring each person’s human rights are respected at YRDSB,” said Board Chair Ron Lynn. “As a board, we try to set a positive example every day. We know our educators and support staff do as well. When we see students taking a leadership role in this endeavour, we are so proud. We look forward to celebrating the dedication of another group of human rights advocates next year.”

“At YRDSB, we strive to create an environment that is inclusive, welcoming, and equitable for all of our students, staff, families, and community members,” said Director of Education Bill Cober. “We are so appreciative to these four students who are helping us accomplish that goal. We know there are many more students who could be recognized, and we look forward to recognizing these human rights leaders moving forward.”

A video and summary of each students’ accomplishments is available on the Board website.
