York Region public elementary students continue EQAO success

Aurora, ON – York Region District School Board continues to exceed provincial averages in the recently released 2019 results from Ontario’s Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO).

“We are proud that our students continue to exceed the provincial averages. This achievement is supported by families and staff members. Through our Multi-Year Strategic Plan, our Board of Trustees demonstrate our commitment to student success,” said Corrie McBain, Chair of the York Region District School Board. “The Board of Trustees continues to work to improve student achievement and well-being and create learning environments that are welcoming and inclusive.”

Among Grade 3 students in York Region District School Board, 80% achieved the provincial standards in reading, 78% in writing and 69% in mathematics. This compares with provincial averages of 74%, 69% and 58% respectively.

Among York Region’s Grade 6 public school students, 87% achieved the provincial standard in reading, 89% in writing and 64% in mathematics. This compares with provincial averages of 81%, 82% and 48% respectively.

“Along with other classroom assessment and student demographic data collected from our Every Student Counts Survey, we will use EQAO data to help us to identify areas of improvement for our schools and system,” said Louise Sirisko, Director of Education, York Region District School Board. “This rich data will help us to better meet the needs of our underserved and underperforming students.”
