Students in YRDSB can now explore career opportunities, and secondary school courses and programs by the sectors that interest them.

All YRDSB secondary schools offer a variety of courses and programs that let students explore their interests, and gain skills, experience, credits and certifications. Students can search for these opportunities by sector, with 16 different categories to choose from, including STEM, Arts, business, manufacturing and more..

“The SHSM program has helped me to gain experience in the health care sector, providing opportunities like CPR training, infection control and WHMIS, as well as a co-op in the surgery unit at Mackenzie Health Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital. Through this program, I have decided the career path I want to follow and made valuable connections in the industry. I have friends who have also participated in SHSM as well and we have all found it helpful in developing career skills and experience that has added great depth to both our resumes and post-secondary applications,” said Isabelle Heisler, Grade 12 student at Dr. G.W. Williams SS.

“We want to ensure our students are prepared for the future, equipped with the skills, knowledge and experience they need to pursue the pathways that interest them. This information will help them make informed choices about accessing the many courses, programs and opportunities available to them in YRDSB secondary schools,” said Ron Lynn, Chair. “The newly developed sector pages also enhance access for families, making it easier to access their child’s potential pathways."

“This content was developed in response to student feedback. They shared with us they want to be able to search for opportunities based on their interests,” said Bill Cober, Director of Education. “All our secondary schools offer great programs. These pages will help ensure students know about the courses and programs available that let them explore their interests and gain valuable skills and experience.”
