Message to Families from the Chair and Director

Last updated on

Over the past few weeks, many of us have been cheering on Canadian athletes at the Olympic and Paralympic Games. As we said in our last message, it is so inspirational to watch the perseverance and determination of Team Canada.

The games are a powerful reminder that the athletes do not embark on this journey alone. Behind every performance is a team of people supporting their training, health and well-being, equipment, travel, logistics and much more. That same sense of teamwork is reflected across our YRDSB schools and district. Recently, we marked Corporate Employee Recognition Day, celebrating the staff who work behind the scenes to support students, staff, families and facilities. We are so grateful for the dedication of all staff across the system who make a difference each day in support of student learning, achievement and well-being.

As we watch the Paralympians compete, we also want to recognize the efforts and achievements of our student athletes. From recent elementary volleyball competitions to secondary teams participating in regional and provincial championships, these experiences reflect the teamwork and dedication of students and the staff who support them. We are proud of our student athletes, coaches and staff who support these opportunities and represent YRDSB with integrity and pride.

We also want to extend our thanks to students, staff and families for all that they do to celebrate and uplift student voice, build community and demonstrate excellence. Each month, we have the privilege of recognizing some of these teams and individuals through the Applause Awards

Supporting student health and well-being is a shared responsibility. We continue to work closely with our partners at York Region Public Health and encourage families to take time to review this important information from public health about measles.

Later this month, we will be inviting you to participate in our budget survey as we begin planning for the 2026–2027 school year. Your feedback is an important part of this process and we encourage you to take part and share your perspectives.

As we approach March Break, we want to thank students, families and staff for their ongoing commitment to learning and well-being. We hope everyone has the opportunity to rest, recharge and enjoy a happy, healthy and safe week.
