Students Team Up with Industry Professionals on the Adoption of Automated Vehicles

Working with transportation industry professionals, a group of secondary school students will use open data to develop creative solutions around the adoption of connected and automated vehicles.

The students will see demonstrations of connected and autonomous vehicles, and learn from industry professionals about the use of open data and transportation planning.

The event gives students an opportunity to collaborate, problem solve and apply learning in a government environment. Organized with The Regional Municipality of York, this is also part of the innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship training for Specialist High-Skills Major students.

9:45 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Students will see demonstrations about transit, autonomous vehicles, the technology at York Region’s Roads and Traffic Operation Centre and how data is used to monitor, utilize and change travel.

2:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. Students will present their solutions to York Region, Ministry of Transportation and York Region District School Board staff members

Who:

Approximately 30 Specialist High-Skills Major students from York Region District School Board schools, staff members from the York Region and Ministry of Transportation.
