Message from Interim Director of Education Scott Yake
After retiring from York Region District School Board in 2020, I am honoured to return to serve the students, staff and families in YRDSB as your Interim Director.
While change and challenges have always been a constant in public education, these past few years have been particularly demanding. The pandemic resulted in changes to education delivery models which placed many new demands on students, families and staff members. Despite this, staff members, families and community members that support children remained true to their core values and to the commitment of always delivering the best for our students. I know this will remain a constant during my time back with YRDSB.
Helen Keller once said, "Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much." I firmly believe in the power of these words. Together, we are a caring and dedicated team of individuals working to create environments that enable all students to be successful. For this I am truly thankful. I look forward to working alongside you to ensure we continually recognize and appreciate our ability to collaborate and support the learning, achievement and well-being of students.
The majority of my 30-year career in public education has been with this board, most recently serving here as Associate Director and then provincially as a Special Advisor to the Ministry of Education - Labour Relations. Throughout my career, I have been committed to supporting and developing individual and organizational leadership, success for all students, student and staff well-being, building trusting relationships and empowering high performing teams to deliver exemplary results through cohesive, relational and inclusive practices.
I look forward to our collective journey ahead in the weeks and months to come and I thank everyone for their dedication, care and support of public education to make YRDSB a remarkable place of learning and success.
