Students are gaining valuable hands-on experience working in the trades at Markham-Stouffville Hospital.
Through the Skilled Trades Exploration and Readiness (STEAR) program piloted last school year, Oak Valley Health has worked with YRDSB to place co-op students into the trades at Markham Stouffville Hospital.
The program gives students in Grades 11 and 12 the opportunity to gain skills and experience in plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and other trades in a hospital environment. The students also gain valuable life and employability skills such as punctuality, willingness to learn, communication and teamwork.
Through these hands-on experiences, students can explore potential career paths and prepare for any future apprenticeships or careers that interest them.
There are many opportunities in YRDSB secondary schools to build transferable skills, gain experience and explore interests in health and wellness and other areas of interest. Visit www.yrdsb.ca/expeience-yrdsb to learn more.
