Adult Day School

The Dr. Bette Stephenson Centre for Learning, (36 Regatta Avenue, Richmond Hill) is a place that gives adults the opportunity to return to school to pursue the goal/s they originally set out for themselves.  Students ages 18 to 20 (non-graduates with 20 or more secondary credits) require a completed Recommendation to Attend form in order to register.

 

Our students are very successful, many going on to University/College or upgrading themselves to a level that allows them to obtain the career they desire. All courses are credit programs and count towards an Ontario Secondary School Diploma.

 

The Adult Day School operates on a quadmester system, five days a week. There are four entry points per year to allow students ample opportunity and flexibility to join classes based on their work/family schedules. A maximum of two courses are taken per quadmester, giving students time to focus on a limited number of subjects, including ESL.

Night School Credit Courses

*Decisions to run courses are based on sufficient enrollment and teacher availability*

​Students must attend the first class to ensure your placement in the course.

 

Night school classes are located at the Dr. Bette Stephenson Centre for Learning, located at 36 Regatta Ave., Richmond Hill, ON L4E 4R1. Classes run on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 6:30 pm -9:45 pm (3 1/4 hours)

Semester One - Fall 2019:

September 24, 2019 to January 30, 2020

Semester Two - Winter 2020

February 13, 2020 to June 16, 2020

How To Register

• Students Attending YRDSB Day Schools
  1. Register on-line by my PATHWAY planner
  2. Winter Registration: January 6, 2020 to February 6, 2020.

• Students Attending NON-YRDSB Secondary Schools
  1. Complete the registration form or obtain one from Dr. Bette Stephenson Centre for Learning.
  2. The form must be signed and sealed by your day school principal. Only original documents will be accepted.
  3. Students must include a copy of their Credit Counselling Summary or Transcript.
  4. Effective January 6, 2020 and up until February 6, 2020, bring the completed registration form and Credit Counselling Summary/Transcript to Dr. Bette Stephenson Centre for Learning, 36 Regatta Avenue, Richmond Hill. Forms can be dropped off Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
  5. Alternatively, Walk In Registration evenings are: Winter Registration: February 6, 2020 - 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
• Adults Wanting to Take Night School Credit Courses
  1. Complete the registration form obtain one from Dr. Bette Stephenson Centre for Learning.
  2. The following documentation is required: proof of status in Canada, proof of Ontario residency, and photo identification.
  3. Students who have recently left high school must also bring an updated Credit Counselling Summary or transcript.
  4. Effective January 6, 2020 and up until February 6, 2020, bring the completed registration form and documentation to Dr. Bette Stephenson Centre for Learning, 36 Regatta Avenue, Richmond Hill. Forms can be dropped off Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
  5. Alternatively, Walk In Registration evenings are:

Required Identification: Non-YRDSB and Adult Students must bring: proof of status in Canada, proof of Ontario residency, and photo identification for registration.

Textbooks: All students are responsible for obtaining the course textbook. Books will be sold during the second week of class.

I.D. Badge: For the safety and security of all participants attending the Board’s Night School Programs, and to be able to readily identify intruders in the building, an I.D Badge is required. It must be worn at all times by students and staff within the school site. The cost of this badge is included in the $10 consumable fee. Cheque or cash will be collected during the first week of classes. Please make cheques payable to the York Region District School Board.

Inclement Weather: Decisions to cancel are made after 2:00 p.m. on the night of class. Please check the board website or twitter to see if classes are cancelled.

Attendance: Students must attend the first day of class to secure their position in the course.
