SPH4U: Physics - Grade 12

Credit Value:

Course Description:

This course enables students to deepen their understanding of the concepts and theories of physics. Students will explore further the laws of dynamics and energy transformations, and will investigate electrical, gravitational, and magnetic fields; electromagnetic radiation; and the interface between energy and matter. They will further develop inquiry skills, learning, for example, how the interpretation of experimental data can provide indirect evidence to support the development of a scientific model. Students will also consider the impact on society and the environment of technological applications of physics.

Text Resources:

There are no required texts but the following are excellent resources and may be available in your school library or from your home school science department. Many examples are taken from these texts and they are an excellent source for practice questions.

  • Physics 12 from Nelson
  • Physics 12 from McGraw-Hill Ryerson

Required Software/Equipment:

The submission of construction tasks would require a video camera, or digital camera, or mailing of the product. Other than household products, some special materials include: Syringes for hydraulics, 1 metre of magnet wire. This internet course also requires a computer which will allow the following to run: a web browser (Java enabled), a word processor, Adobe Acrobat Reader, .doc viewer, Activex, Windows Media Player, EDISON4 (Electricity and Electronics software lab).
