York Region District School Board Employment Equity Plan

News Release

Aurora, ON – York Region District School Board has completed an Employment Equity Plan. This plan was developed based on a workforce census and an employment systems review.

“The workforce census, review and the employment equity plan are an integral component of our Board’s overall goal to provide welcoming and inclusive workplaces and learning environments,” said Louise Sirisko, Director of Education. “I endorse the findings of this plan, and look forward to implementing its recommendations as we continue our journey to support all our students and staff members.”

Work began early this year in response to directions from the Ontario Minister of Education and a commitment from the Board to gain a better understanding of its workforce and employment practices.

In addition to the census, consultations with staff were conducted through focus groups and one-on-one meetings. All employees had the opportunity to provide input into the census and employment systems review. In total, approximately 2,500 employees participated in the census and consultations.

This workforce census data provides a valuable resource for the Board to understand the people who make up its workforce, as well as helping to develop and implement plans to support our commitment to equity and inclusion in our schools and workplaces.

The Employment Equity Plan and related documents are available on the Board’s website.
