Meet Shannon Westlake, a 2024 Olympian and a former student of RL Graham PS, WJ Watson PS and Keswick HS.
Learn about her journey from being a young cadet to attending the Paris Olympics in 2024. Hear why she loves the sport, how she prepares and what advice she has for young female athletes.
"Leading up to the Olympics was the most rewarding thing, because it took years of work to get there, 10 years of those minutes that I decided to put in when no was watching," said Westlake. "It's about all of that hard work that you've put into it and being happy with yourself as a person knowing that you did your best with the resources and everything that you had on that day."
She also recognizes the roles that educators play. "No matter what happens, you have a huge support system there with you from when you were a kid here at an elementary school. Teachers who have supported you throughout the years, even one minor comment that they made that supported you going through will impact you and you'll remember it."
