We are writing to families today sharing specific concerns related to the Novel Coronavirus and are seeking your support as members of our community. We understand that students and their families are feeling some anxiety regarding the Novel Coronavirus. 

About 3,000 People Attend Community Vigil Honouring Flight 752 Victims

On Monday, close to 3,000 people gathered at a vigil in Richmond Hill to honour the victims of Flight 752 in Iran. The York Region community, including​ our students, families and staff members, have been deeply and directly affected by this tragic event and we came together united in our grief and support for one another. 

York Region District School Board to Ho​st Community Vigil 

We join Canadians and others around the world in mourning the loss of the victims of yesterday’s plane crash in Iran. We are heartbroken to learn that five of our students died in this devastating tragedy, from four of our schools: Adrienne Clarkson P.S., Beynon Fields P.S., Meadowbrook P.S. and Richmond Green S.S. Our focus continues to be on providing support to students at the affected schools, and we have staff members trained in responding to tragic events at the schools this week.

Nothing prepares us for the news of the airline crash that took place in Iran on Wednesday, especially one that affects children and youth. Sadly, we are aware that our region and schools have been directly affected by this sudden and tragic loss of life.We are heartbroken by the news and our thoughts and deepest condolences are with all those affected. This is a global tragedy affecting us locally and we join our families and communities in grieving.

Inaugural Board Meeting

Dear families, Yesterday, at our annual inaugural Board meeting, the trustees elected our officers of the Board. I am humbled to serve this year as Board Chair.  

Censure of Trustee Elizabeth Terrell Tracey

At a special Board Meeting held Tuesday, August 27, 2019, the York Region District School Board determined by unanimous vote that Trustee Elizabeth Terrell-Tracey breached the Trustee Code of Conduct. Following a written request for reconsideration received from Trustee Terrell-Tracey on September 9, 2019, the Board of Trustees confirmed its determinations and all sanctions at a special Board Meeting on Monday, September 23, 2019.
