Censure of Trustee Elizabeth Terrell Tracey

At a special Board Meeting held Tuesday, August 27, 2019, the York Region District School Board determined by unanimous vote that Trustee Elizabeth Terrell-Tracey breached the Trustee Code of Conduct. Following a written request for reconsideration received from Trustee Terrell-Tracey on September 9, 2019, the Board of Trustees confirmed its determinations and all sanctions at a special Board Meeting on Monday, September 23, 2019.

With ongoing discussions about bargaining and potential provincial labour action in education, we recognize that many members of our community have questions and concerns about what this will mean for our students and schools. 

Student Agenda Planners

Recently, in a small number of schools some families received student agenda planners from their school. These planners, ordered from a print vendor, are used to support students with organization and communicate with teachers. Over the weekend, we learned that some of the school agendas had a cover with cartoon depictions of students, which perpetuates stereotypes and stigmatizes children from racialized backgrounds. While we appreciate the intent of the cover was positive, we are grateful for the students who had the courage to come forward to resolve this matter.
