When and where can I register?
Registration details are available on the Elementary Programs and Secondary Programs webpages.

 

What are the registration deadlines?

  • Elementary Classes:
    • First Online Registration Period: Register online through Edsby by the deadline to attend the full program from the first day. After Edsby registration closes, reorganization will take place which may impact courses and locations.
    • Second Registration Period: Register will reopen after the initial start up of the program. There may be limited spaces based on the available language classes, locations and grades. Details will be available on the Elementary webpage.
  • Secondary Classes:
    • New registrations are not accepted after the third class.

 

I want to register using Edsby/My Pathway Planner (myBlueprint). Where can I find help?

Will families be contacted about the first day of class?
No. Class dates and times are posted on the program webpages. 

 

Do classes run on holidays or PA Days?

  • Statutory Holiday Long weekends: No classes. This includes classes on Friday and Saturday.
  • PA Days: Yes, classes run as usual.

 

What happens during inclement weather?

  • Elementary Classes: We are aligned with YRDSB inclement weather policy and classes are cancelled. Remote classes continue as scheduled.
  • Secondary Classes: Remote classes continue as scheduled.

Do students need prior knowledge of the language?

  • Elementary Classes: No. Beginners are welcome. Instruction is differentiated, but families should note the program runs once per week and is not immersion-based.
  • Secondary Classes: Level B courses require no prior knowledge or prerequisite (see Prerequisites on the Secondary Programs webpage).

 

My child already speaks the language. Can they be placed in an advanced class?

  • Elementary Classes: Students are placed in age-appropriate classes mandated by the Ministry of Education.
  • Secondary Classes: A prerequisite is not required for a Level B credit course. Students must have the required prerequisite course in order to enroll in a Level C or Level D credit course. Students cannot skip a level based on fluency alone.

 

Do international fee-paying visa students pay additional fees?

  • Elementary Classes: $245.00 per course ($20 consumable + $225 program fee)
  • Secondary Classes: $1000.00 per course 

Can students take more than one language?
Yes. Students may take different languages on different days. A $20 consumable/resources fee per class applies.

 

Can students take the same language more than once per week?
Yes, with additional fees. Ministry funding covers only one class per language. Email ilil@yrdsb.ca for details.

 

Can Grade 7 or 8 students take a credit language course?
Credit courses are for secondary students only. Students entering Grade 9 in September may take a summer “Grade 8 Reach Ahead” course (limited languages at Levels B or C). 

 

Where are classes held?

  • Elementary: In YRDSB secondary schools and remotely online.
  • Secondary: Remotely online.

Are summer school ILIL credit courses offered?
Summer school ILIL credit courses are for secondary students only. Students entering Grade 9 in September may take a “Grade 8 Reach Ahead” course (limited languages at Levels B or C).
