French Immersion in Secondary School

Continue to Learn En Français: Experience French Immersion in Secondary School

Students can earn a French Immersion Certificate when they graduate secondary school. To qualify for the certificate, students must earn at least 10 French Immersion credits (out of the 30 credits needed for the Ontario Secondary School Diploma).

This includes:

  • four French as a Second Language courses
  • six courses in which French is the language of instruction

Check My Blueprint or your school’s website to see what courses are offered.

What are the benefits?

Students who continue with French Immersion in secondary school:

  • Earn a French Immersion Certificate.
  • Enhance your fluency in listening, speaking, reading and writing in the French language.
  • Gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of the French language, including French literature, and an understanding of French societies around the world.

Being able to communicate in French can open up opportunities for post-secondary, work and travel.
