In 2014, under the Ontario First Nation, Métis, and Inuit Education Policy Framework Implementation Plan, the Ministry of Education directed school boards to establish formal processes to implement the framework. The Indigenous Education Advisory Council is one of those processes and is made up of:
- community members
- education authority members from Georgina Island First Nation
- parents
- students
- board staff
The work of the IEAC is to provide feedback on board planning regarding Indigenous education to help build stronger relationships with communities and families to support First Nation, Métis, and Inuit student achievement and well-being.
The IEAC Terms of Reference outline the role of the council, objectives, operations, meeting protocols, membership and resources available to support the council.
