How do I access the tool?

Password is required. Speak to your teacher to request the password.

Password information is required when subscriptions are paid for. Resources are to be used only by the York Region District School Board.  

 

Tips for using the tool 

Gale Databases offer a number of useful features including the ability to:

  • Browse by discipline, use the topic finder, perform a subject guide search or filter your results and find related content.
  • Sign in with Gapps account - lets you save to Google Drive
  • Listen and translate 
  • Use highlights and notes that transfer to Google drive
  • Cite sources in multiple styles 
  • Filter by reading level
  • Topic Finder - Visualize connections between search terms and topics and view relevant articles for those topics.

Gale Academic OneFile includes millions of articles from scholarly journals and other authoritative sources with extensive coverage in biology, chemistry, criminal justice, economics, environmental science, history, marketing, political science, and psychology. Journals and reference sources covering the physical sciences, technology, medicine, social sciences, the arts, theology, literature and many other subjects. Browse by discipline.

General OneFile - Explore a range of topics broken down by subject for targeted results based on your interests.This database is useful to users conducting general reference queries, business searches, and current event research. full-text magazines, newspapers, travel guides, radio podcasts, videos and more. 

 

Gale in Context

Documents are assigned one offive reading levels. The new indicators resemble dice; they are all square, but are different colors and display dots which increase with the complexity of the text. Both the Content Level indicator and the Lexile measure (if available) will display on search results and individual documents.

Gale In Context: Middle School contains age-appropriate videos, newspapers, journals, magazines, primary sources, websites, multimedia. Includes a dictionary and atlas. Students will find outstanding support to complete assignments in core subjects including literature, science, social studies, and history.

Gale In Context: Canada covers a broad range of Canadian perspectives of topics, people, places, and events. with full-text magazines, academic journals, news articles, primary source documents, images, videos, audio files and links to vetted websites.

Gale In Context: Elementary Introduce elementary students to database searching with resources featuring age-appropriate, curriculum-related content. 

Gale In Context: Environmental Studies focuses on the physical and social aspects of environmental issues. Topic, organization, state and province portals form research centers around issues covering earth systems, global change, land and water use, populations, legislation, and more. OneFile: Communications and Mass Media  This collection provides current and accurate information from more than 100 journals focused on all aspects of the communications field including: advertising and public relations, literature and writing, and linguistics
