YRDSB conducts two anonymous school climate surveys designed to collect perception data from students (Grades 7-12), families (Grades K-12), and staff to understand their learning experiences during the school year with goals to:
- assess perceptions of safety.
- make informed planning decisions about programs to help prevent bullying and promote safe and inclusive schools.
- determine the effectiveness of school programs on an ongoing basis.
- build and sustain a positive school climate.
We want to hear from you!
The surveys will include questions related to:
-
learning model, technology, and learning tools
-
engagement and learning
-
family / school communication and community engagement
-
well-being and mental health
-
relationships with peers and staff
-
safety, discrimination and bullying
-
equitable and inclusive learning environments
-
student identity.
We ask about students’ identities (e.g., race, gender) to support understanding how learning experiences may differ among groups of students, and to promote a safe and inclusive school climate for all students.
Information from these surveys will help to ensure that our schools provide safe, inclusive, and respectful environments that support student achievement and well-being. Survey results will be used to identify areas that need to be addressed, monitor progress and plan strategies to support students.
To accommodate participants with varying exceptionalities, both surveys can be completed using voice recognition software such as Google Read & Write.
Samples of the student survey and the family survey are available for families for review.
