Addressing Islamophobia and Antisemitism

Last updated on

We have heard concerns from our community about the potential for increase in antisemitic, Islamophobic acts of hate in our schools and in our communities. We want our students, staff, families and community to know that we take these matters very seriously.

To be clear, any act of hate will not be tolerated, we are committed to addressing and eliminating all forms of hate in our schools, including Islamophobia and antisemitism. Following the tragic global events that continue to evolve since the weekend, we appreciate that currently, Jewish, Muslim, Israeli and Palestinian-identifying students, families and staff will be particularly vulnerable to incidents of hate. We have asked all staff to be vigilant and follow our protocol for addressing incidents of hate and discrimination. Families continue to be our strongest partners in education and we know that activities in schools can reflect what occurs in our communities, we are appreciative of families who reinforce our messaging of ensuring schools are safe, welcoming and inclusive for all students.

Any one incident of hate is too many and we will continue to work with our community partners to ensure our schools and workplaces remain places of safety for all students, staff and families.

Students and families can report incidents of hate, bullying or other concerns through Report It, the Board’s anonymous online reporting tool.
