It has come to our attention that some hurtful and disturbing comments have been shared on Twitter. The account that shared the Tweets has been alleged of having an affiliation with one of our Trustees.
I want to assure families, students, staff and community members that the comments shared by this account do not represent the views or values of the Board of Trustees or the York Region District School Board. At YRDSB, we are committed to creating safe and inclusive environments for all our students and their families where diversity is celebrated and supported. We take great pride in this and are sorry that the comments and posts in question do not reflect those values.
The Board of Trustees’ conduct is governed by a Code of Conduct, and the YRDSB has an independent Integrity Commissioner. Upon being made aware of this issue, we referred this information to the office of the independent Integrity Commissioner for review and consideration.
Again, we are sorry for the hurt and pain this has caused and will be working with our Independent Integrity Commissioner to investigate this issue.
