Message from the Board Chair

Last updated on

It is my honour to serve as Chair of the Board of Trustees for 2022. I want to thank my colleagues for their trust and confidence.

There has never been a more important time than now to build relationships with students and their families. With all we've gone through these past years, this is the time to develop connections and make a difference.

I’d like to thank and welcome new Vice-Chair Ron Lynn. I look forward to working with him.

I also want to take this opportunity to thank Past Chair Cynthia Cordova. Trustee Cordova has supported trustees and given so much of her time, effort, and most of all, ethical leadership. We are grateful for the leadership she provided over this past year.

I believe in the public education system. Our children are the future and public education is the key to unlock the potential of this next generation of leaders and change-makers.

We are one of the fastest growing and most diverse boards in Canada. We must remain united around our focus on supporting the achievement and well-being of all of our students.

In a few months, the Board of Trustees will have a very important task - to develop a renewed Multi-Year Plan that identifies our goals as a school board. This will be a reflection of emergent priorities identified by our communities. This is where relationships matter; where we build bridges with community.

I believe that one of the most important skills a trustee must have is the ability to build relationships with our community and our educational partners. We are committed to gathering public feedback so that we can create lasting change through the implementation of a new Multi-Year Plan.

Director of Education Louise Sirisko, senior leadership team, school administrators, educators, support staff, front line and office staff have all led by example. As a Trustee and Chair of this board, I look forward to working together in our efforts to bring lasting change to support students.

Student Trustees Munira Chakera, Chelbylynn Milton and Bruce Yu, as representatives of over 128,000 students, are the constant reminder of the reason we always strive to do our best, and are an essential part of this journey.

It is time to focus on what we are here for; to work together in support of student achievement and well-being. As a Board of Trustees, we remain committed to working hard for the thousands of students and families we serve.
