What We Collect
The YRDSB Museum and Archives preserves historical artefacts and documents relating to the Board and the history of public education in York Region.
We have a wonderful online catalogue of objects and documents related to the history of education in York Region. At the Heritage Schoolhouse, we host students to help them gain a deeper understanding of the past through the exploration of our collections. Over the years we have developed online exhibits that complement our programming, enhance critical thinking and share student voices from across York Region.
Our collection includes school equipment, attendance registers, photographs, administrative papers, maps, curriculum guidelines, student work, furniture, and textbooks.
Donations
While we are the official collecting repository for the YRDSB, we also accept donations from the general public. If you have something that you think will help us with building our understanding of the educational history of York Region, please contact us by emailing museum@yrdsb.ca.
Please see our Collections Guidelines (PDF) to get an idea of the kinds of things that we collect.
Museums Assistance Program
The YRDSB Museum & Archives is grateful for the support of the Government of Canada's Museums Assistance Program. Through the Collections Management program 2021-2022, the Museums and & Archives was able to update our collections holdings. In addition to new high density shelving, our collection was also re-housed in archival materials, ensuring continued care and preservation of the collection. We are very thankful for the ongoing support of the Department of Canadian Heritage in the upgrade of our collections storage systems.
