Voting Day for the 2019 By-Election is Thursday, April 25, 2019.

The all candidates meeting will be livestreamed. A link will be posted on this page by 4:30 p.m. on April 1, 2019. A video of the event will be posted following the meeting for any member of the public unable to attend in person.
Why host an all candidates’ meeting?
All candidates’ meetings are non-partisan events intended to support the local democratic process and provide members of the public with an opportunity to learn about the candidates and hear their views on issues affecting education.
There are 13 candidates running for the vacant position of school board trustee in the City of Vaughan, Wards 1 and 2.
The information contained in each of the candidates’ written submissions (linked below) has been posted as received. The views, thoughts and opinions expressed by each candidate belong to the author and do not necessarily reflect those of the York Region District School Board.
Members of the public will have 25 minutes to speak to candidates directly during the candidate availability period at assigned tables.
Rules and Procedures
1. The meeting will be called to order promptly at 6:30 p.m.
2. Candidates will pull numbers at random from the moderator at the time of arrival.Candidates will pull numbers at random from the moderator at the time of arrival. This will determine their speaking order and table for the candidate availability period.
3. Each candidate will have two minutes to make their opening statement beginning with candidate number 1 followed by each of the other candidates in numerical order.
Opening comments should answer the following:
Background information about themselves and experience they bring to the role.
An overview of why they want to be a school board trustee at the York Region District School Board.
4. Following the opening statements, the moderators will ask each candidate to respond to predetermined questions. Each candidate will have one minute to answer each question in a predetermined order one at a time. The question and answer period is not a debate.
5. After the question and answer period, one minute will be provided to each candidate to make a closing statement. Candidates will make closing statements in reverse order from opening statements (beginning with the candidate assigned number 13 and ending with the candidate assigned number 1).
6. Members of the public will be able to speak with candidates during the candidate availability portion of the meeting. To ensure procedural fairness, during the question and answer portion of the agenda only the moderators will ask questions. 9. Candidates have been asked to keep dialogue positive and focused on their vision for the role of trustee. The moderators will take appropriate action to address disruptive behaviour.

deliver effective and appropriate educational programs
develop, maintain and monitor effectiveness of Board policies

Information for Pu blic Scho ol Trustee Candidates
There are several resources available for individuals interested in becoming a Public School Trustee Candidate.
Effective December 1, 2018, based on student enrolment calculations, in accordance with the Education Act and Ontario Regulation 357/06, Trustee honoraria is set at $23,701.00 for trustees, $28,701.00 and $33,701.00 for the Vice-Chair and Chair respectively.
Additional funds are allocated for reasonable miscellaneous, professional development and communication expenses incurred in a trustee’s term of office, as outlined in Policy and Procedure #220.0, Trustee Services.
