Job Search Skills

Job search skills are the tools that you need to get the attention of a potential employer. If you can show potential employers that you have what they are looking for, you'll increase your chances of being short-listed for an interview.

There are several websites that will give you a good overview of the complete package of job search skills.

  • About Employment is an excellent introduction to the five-step job search process. Once you are familiar with the basic job search process, you may want to look at some more advanced versions of the job search process.

  • The Ontario School Counsellors' Association (OSCA) website list job search skill resources in the Students section, under the heading Who do I want to become.

  • Prospects is the Ontario Ministry of Education's guide to career planning.

  • York University's Career CyberGuide- contains dynamic online video presentations and downloadable handouts and work sheets that give you the most relevant career information based on real life experiences.

  • Employment Ontario

  • My Pathway Planner - contains a résumé and cover letter builder, job search tool and occupation information
