The Human Rights Office (HRO) Reporting Form is available to any member of the YRDSB community to report discrimination or harassment that is believed to breach Human Rights Policy #240 and Ontario's Human Rights Code.
Note to students: The Report It tool lets students share information about inappropriate behaviour or incidents of hate or discrimination that happen at school, at school-related events, online or off school property.
Please note: The HRO does not accept anonymous complaints.
What happens after I submit a Reporting Form?
All submitted Reporting Forms are received, reviewed and retained by the HRO. The Reporting Form is used for our general understanding of the key issue(s) related to your human rights issue or matter.
You may be offered a confidential consultation with the HRO if your complaint appears to fall under the Board's Human Rights Policy #240.
Please note, however, that submitting a Reporting Form does not begin a formal complaint or guarantee that any specific action(s) will be taken by the HRO. Issues or matters that are not connected to any protected grounds under the Human Rights Code will be referred to the appropriate YRDSB department.
Confidentiality
The HRO considers all Reporting Forms to be confidential at all times. This includes any personal information or reasons for reaching out to our office. The information submitted in the Reporting Form will not be shared with any other YRDSB department or unit without your written consent*
*In exceptional circumstances, where required by law or where there is risk of significant harm to anyone’s health or safety, we may refer the matter to appropriate parties within the Board and/or notify third parties, such as the police or child protection authorities.
