Selection Process

The selection process, may include the following stages:

  1. Practicum

  2. Written submission

  3. Interview

  4. Reference checks

  5. Submission of education/documentation

  6. Other alternative selection methods or non-traditional interview techniques that may be required.

All interviews, will include/consider:

  • one (1) mandatory equity and diversity interview question

  • diverse interview panel (where possible)

  • commitment to hiring a candidate(s) reflective of the York Region communities we service

  • where applicable, candidates are screened for their ability to demonstrate that they possess the character and attitudes necessary for success within the York Region District School Board. This may include the personal leadership attributes contained in the Ontario Leadership Framework

Police Vulnerable​ Sector Check

As a condition of employment with York Region District School Board, all successful candidates will be required to provide a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC), in accordance with the Education Act. Anyone seeking employment must provide an appropriate police record check from the police jurisdiction in which they reside. Please contact your police department for further information on obtaining this document and ensure that it is a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC). Costs incurred in obtaining this document is the candidate’s responsibility. Please note this document will only be considered valid for six (6) months after the date of issue.

A Police Vulnerable Sector Checks (PVSC) is required where an individual is in a position of trust or authority over vulnerable persons, including students. Applicants to positions that are not school based and whose position does not involve regular contact with students are required to provide a Police Criminal Records Check (PCRC). Human Resource Services will advise applicants as to the required police record check and ensure its receipt prior to employment.

Prospective employees may not commence employment until the appropriate police screening documentation is received.

Each police jurisdiction has varied time delays in processing applications, ranging from several weeks to several months.

  • Any false information provided by the successful candidate will result in future termination.

  • The York Region District School Board reserves the right to request applicants to provide additional information with regard to this application for employment.

  • All information submitted becomes the property of the York Region District School Board and will not be returned.

  • Candidates must be legally entitled to work in Canada in order to be considered for a position with the York Region District School Board.

  • It is the practice of the York Region District School Board to check references, including the most recent employer.
